Mindfulness, Compassion and Radical Candour with Amy Sandler: in dialogue with MWC advisory board member Robert Chender

The MWC is delighted to host Amy Sandler,  Lead Coach and Podcast Host at Radical Candor LLC, in a dialogue with Robert Chender, member of the MWC Board of Advisors and long-time mindfulness practitioner and teacher, about Radical Candor.

Radical Candor is the process developed by Kim Scott and discussed in her best-selling book, of caring personally while challenging directly, in a way that is both kind and clear, specific and sincere. The antidote to toxic company cultures, is a simple concept that’s not always easy to practice. Radical Candor is the sweet spot between managers who are obnoxiously aggressive on one side and ruinously empathetic on the other.  It’s about providing guidance, which involves a mix of praise as well as criticism, delivered to produce better results and help employees achieve. It shows managers how to be successful while retaining their humanity, finding meaning in their job, and creating an environment where people both love their work and their colleagues.

Amy Sandler has shared Radical Candor around the world, from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies, in industries ranging from aerospace to technology, financial services to franchising, and education to healthcare.  Amy has trained tens of thousands across a spectrum of roles, including CEOs and leadership teams, mid-level and new managers and individual contributors just starting on their career paths. She is passionate about helping teams from around the world achieve more together than they could ever do on their own.

Amy formerly served as the company’s Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Content Officer and is an executive coach, corporate mindfulness trainer and professional speaker, Amy has more than 20 years of experience in senior roles including Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), Vistage and UCLA. She has an AB and MBA from Harvard University, an MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA and is a certified teacher of the Search Inside Yourself leadership program developed at Google. She is featured on the Simple Habit and Unplug meditation mobile apps, has performed stand-up comedy and she’s walked on fire six times.

A Paradox of Wellbeing – by Zac Newman
There has been much helpful discussion of the importance of taking care of our mental health in these uncertain and unusual times. I suggest a parallel here with falling asleep.
